Geeta’s Blessings on Pongala - 2
Om Sree Matre Namaha
Episode 84
The day before the puja, on Saturday, she was sitting alone under the tent giving company to her Devi vigraha. She had already installed the Devi in the morning and hence did not want to leave Her alone. All the other devotees were busy attending the puja and aarti in the sanctum sanctorum.
She sat down with the prayer sheet with only a line or two written. She spent almost 40 mins to complete the prayer. But alas nothing was coming to her mind.
She started praying to Devi maa saying ‘Amma please give me some apt names to write your prayer. I am unable to do it without Your help’.

She started praying to Devi maa saying ‘Amma please give me some apt names to write your prayer. I am unable to do it without Your help’.
Suddenly one by one the names started popping up in her mind and she started writing down.
Can you imagine she was struggling for 40 to 45 mins with nothing coming to mind. As soon as she requested the names came to her in just under a minute.
That is power of Devi Maa. She wanted the devotees to pray to Her using these names.
The prayer is an invocation to bless devotees on each of the aspects that the name meant.
The last line of the introduction was:
‘Among us we will never know when and how Devi would come and be one among us. We would do Pongala for Devi. So together we would do the Pongala. Hence let us concentrate on Devi while doing the Pongala’.

The Pongala Introduction:
Pongala is an offering / prayer given to Devi by the ladies of the house for peace, prosperity, health and wealth of her family and community.
When a group of ladies all with pure hearts chant and make the Pongala – Devi accepts this as Amrit.
It is believed that while the function is going on Devi herself would come and join us to make the Pongala. We don't know who among us gathered here is Sakshat Devi Parashakthi Herself.
In short Devi Herself is going to make Pongala for us here today for her favorite devotees who have gathered here.
Before we start let us all close our eyes for a few minutes. I will read a prayer.
Please imbibe every feeling and thought that we offer to Devi here today’.
Prayer:
‘Oh Jaganmatha! Adi ParaShakti!
You are the cause of all creation that I see in this Universe. You dwell in everything of this Universe- inanimate as well as animate things.
Oh Devi!
You are Lakshmi in modesty and prosperity. You are Saraswati in knowledge and intellectual. You are Kali in restraining evil forces.
Salutations to you. Jagath Janani.

Oh Devi! Maha Mayee!
I do not know your mantra or your stuti. I don’t know how to recite your glories. I don’t know how to invoke you through meditation. I don’t know how to do puja to you. But please accept this small prayer as sincere dedication to your lotus feet.

Oh Devi! Bhakta Vatsale!
You are my mother, father, guardian, protector and preceptor. Please help me to have good thoughts about others. Let my hands, my legs, my mind and my intelligence be at others service. In that way I will be able to serve you.
