Three Generations of Blessed Devotees - Devi Priya - 4
Episode 63
So beautiful are the miracles, it is amazing to hear and read the scripts Krishna Dasi and Devi Priya share with me.
On one night Devi Priya got a dream in which Durga Maa instructed her to prepare PODI PITHA and showed her how it looks.
Priya did not have any idea of what it is even remotely. Upon seeing it she did not know whether it was a sweet or a savoury.
She and her mother have never ever heard of this dish.
Naturally our only source of search is Google and she Googled it.
Interestingly she found that it is one of the top 10 sweet dishes of Orissa, their native state.
The search indicated that it is the favourite dish of Jagannatha (Lord Maha Vishnu) and was lovingly offered by Subhadra.
Priya was also shown the ingredients of the dish in her dream and she also heard a voice asking her to add a pinch of salt to the dish to bring out more flavour.

The next day itself she made the dish and offered it to Durga Maa which was accepted. While cleaning the puja room she had a doubt whether Devi Maa accepted the naivedyam or not; immediately a flower fell from the photo.
At one time, Priya was confused to which deity she should do kumkum (vermillion) puja.
Should she do for Krishna, who she knows is showing His miracles in their house or Lord Venkateswara or Devi Maa?
All of us also go through this dilemma.
Luckily for Devi Priya, her question was answered and she was guided through a dream.
She saw a lady with a big vermillion staring at her and wondering why Priya was not inviting her inside the house. The lady in the dream was surrounded by heaps of lockers (as we see in the bank locker).
As usual Priya was a little apprehensive of what is being indicated in the dream.
She turned towards her source of guidance – Narayaneeyam.
When she opened the book randomly she got Dasakam 28.
Incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi’.
The dasakam describes the birth of Goddess Lakshmi during Ksheera Sagara Madhanam.

Priya however still could not link it to her dream.
She had a long standing desire to buy an idol of Gayatri Maa as she chants Gayatri mantra regularly as well as performs manasa puja. That evening when she went to buy the idol, the shop keeper, a lady, said ‘Nowhere in the shops would you get idol of Gayatri Maa. Only Lakshmi Devi’s idol would be available.’
Priya’s mind could now understand and grasp the meaning of the dream and every day she started doing kumkum archana to Goddess Lakshmi.

Unlike them, many of us who forget the dreams once we wake up or may only remember minor details, the mother and daughters’ remember their dreams so vividly that they can narrate the whole sequence as well as minute details also.
On 25 th of December, Priya saw a Devi with a hood on top of her head. After she woke up she again took the help of Google to search.
She was wonder stuck when she came across a picture which was the exact replica of the Devi in her dream –
Is it coincidence or the will of Devi Maa???
Devi in the picture as well as in her dream wore the same coloured saree, sitting in the same position.
After searching for the information…
She realised that the Devi’s name was ‘Renuka Yellamma’.
Renuka Yellamma is a Hindu goddess worshipped predominantly in the Indian state of Maharashtra. "Renu" means "Atom/Mother of Universe".
She is also worshipped in the South Indian states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Karanataka, and Tamil Nadu. Renuka& temple at Mahur in Maharashtra is considered one of the shakti peethas.
She is the avatar of Goddess Parvati/Durga. She is normally considered as a village deity and is prayed mostly on Sundays with different offerings.

After discussing with her mother and other relatives, they realised that she was the Goddess for her parents ‘gotra’. Neither her parents nor her grandparents ever knew the significance of Renuka Yellamma and hence never conducted any puja for her.
In fact, Priya says they have never ever heard of this Goddess.
Upon sourcing this information, she wanted to offer her some naivedyam but was not sure what was traditionally offered to her.
Do you think Devi Maa would have left it at that when she herself chose to come into dream and show her presence???
After two or three days, she had another dream in which she saw Renuka Yellama’s photo dipped in gruel made with rice. (Gruel consist of some type of cereal —oat, wheat or rye flour, or rice—boiled in water or milk).
She could even smell the gruel in the dream which was fermented.
So the very next Sunday, she prepared the fermented gruel and offered to Devi Maa.
She later came to know that only fermented gruel is offered as naivedyam to this form of Durga especially during agricultural festivals.

As I said earlier she started to do kumkum archana to Goddess Lakshmi everyday along with the Lakshmi Mantra.
In a dream, she saw the kumkum she was offering falling on a five hooded silver snake.

She never considered her pooja being offered to a snake goddess.
But then after her dream of Renuka Yellamma, she realised that her gotra deity (Yellamma) was receiving all the upacharas and kumkum archana she was performing to Lakshmi Devi.
