Ramayan is a sacred Epic of Bharat. It is believed to have taken place in Treytha Yuga as Lord Vishnu took a human form to save Dharma and humble people from Demon King Ravana.
The entire Ramayan was written by Maharishi Valmiki as per directions of Maharishi Naarada.
When Valmiki asked Naarada Maharishi "Is there any human being on Earth with great qualities?" Valmiki Maharishi expects 16 great qualities ...for which Maharishi Naarada replies that those qualities which the great sage refers to cannot be found (all together in one person) ...Even in Angels...and how can a human have? ...but after a while he replies that only one human being contemporary to the sage has got all these 16 great good qualities...
He is none else but SRIRAMA...King of Ayodhya...then with blessings from Bramha Maharishi, Valmiki wrote the Epic Ramayan.
This Epic is divided into 7 parts known as Kaandas namely Baala kaanda, Ayodhya kaanda, Aranya kaanda, Kishkinda kaanda, Sundara kaanda, Yudha kaanda, and Uttara kaanda.
These chapters clearly describe the entire history of Lord Rama.
Bramha gave blessing to Maharishi that this story will prevail on Earth as long as trees, mountains, sea and rivers exist...hence from time immemorial the same epic is written by so many sages and innumerable great devotional poets. But every where the essence is same...and all the kaandas (parts) represent the same inner theme.
