The story behind Her coming to this place is very interesting…
She herself came in search of devotee and stayed in their home.
Long back in the sleepy village of Nemili, when everyone was asleep engulfed in darkness of the night, she appeared in the dream of a chose devotee Mr. Subramania Iyer.
She said ‘under the command of Sri Raja Rajeswari, I shall come floating in the river Kushasthalai. I am coming specifically for you. Go to the river and bring Me home’.

Unable to wait till sunrise, the very excited Mr. Iyer rushed to the river.
And started searching for the Bala the whole day standing in waist deep water.
As the flow of water was very high he placed his hands under water trying to search on the river bed for Her.
By the end of the day Iyer was tired and in a sad voice said ‘Oh Bala! You came in my dream and told me to bring you home. Alas! I have been searching from morning but you are nowhere to be seen. What do I do?’
The next day he went again to the river banks and searched and searched like a mad man.
Is it so easy to get hold of Devi Maa???
Will She comes to us without testing our patience???
However his perseverance did not come down even an inch.
Heartbroken he returned home crying and saying ‘My tears would not stop flowing until I see you in whatever form you want to show me. Why are you testing me? And why this delay in showering you blessing on me’
Day in and day out he searched without losing his patience.
One day a tired Iyer said..
‘Enough of this hide and seek. I came in search of You to take You home. Oh beauty of my dreams please come to my hand’.
Saying so he thought he would take a dip into the waist deep water for the last time.
The moment he dipped he found something touching his hand.
Surprised he pulled up and was wonder stuck to see it was none other than a tiny 3 inch Bala idol in his hands.

In the sunlight She was dazzling with divine beauty.
His ecstasy knew no bounds. He was jubilant and filled with delirious happiness – with heart brimming gratitude he brought the divine Bala home.
How many people in this world are blessed to experience this?
Only a few chosen are so fortunate to have the Goddess herself living with them.
He returned home holding Bala to his bosom, a prized possession indeed, with a lot of pride and peace.
He made a throne and installed her in his house.

She made her abode in this small village in Mr. Iyer’s house. She governs Her devotees from this place and showers Her blessings on the chosen few.
Nothing moves without Her command and nothing goes without Her wish.
Without Her approval not even a grain of salt can be tasted or melted in water.
And without Her permission not even the highest authority be in political or otherwise can visit her abode.
Unwarranted exhibition of status money or muscle does not work in Her presence. She loves devotees who visit Her with pure devotion and who believe in Her. Our good deeds and total surrender are the paths to receive Her blessings.
‘My visitors are those whom I wish to see. Those who wish to see Me can go to the temple. But to enter My peetam mere thought is not enough. They would need My permission and My call to see Me’.
She is a living Goddess at the Peetam and many devotees who believe in Her presence have experienced Her blessing.
It is believed that she gets upset by the bargaining attitude of devotees. The prayers to the Goddess should not be accompanied by a promise to be fulfilled on attainment of the wish.

Bala says..
‘Confuse not your mind by asking. When problems mount and your family cries I will come and sit in your lap, hold you and remove your sighs and wish your worries away’.
She is omnipresent and is always at the beck and call of Her devotes.
She loves sweets like chocolates, biscuits, soft drinks etc. Sometimes she appears in the dreams of devotees and asks them to offer Her preferred food. The unique aspect is that we can offer to Her whatever we offer to our children and take back the same as prasadam.
Everyone who visits Her abode would receive chocolates and Kumkum as prasadam.
Her peetam continues to be maintained by the family of Mr. Iyer.
