Experiences at Guruvayoor
Sri Guruvayoor Puramati Ramaniyam
Bhuloka Vaikuntham Sri Krsna Sanniddhyam
Bhakta Paräyanam Narayana Naamam
Nityam muznum Gehamitatipunyam
Meaning:
Sri Guruvayoor puram is the abode of beauty that captivates hearts; it is the Vaikuntam (abode of Vishnu) in this world, because, here, the presence of Sri Krishna is felt always by the devotees. This is the sacred home of the Lord, as it is always resonating with the chanting of the name of Narayana who takes the devotee across the ocean of ‘samsara’.
Episode 12
Kalpana visits Guruvayoor almost every year with her family. From the time they started receiving Krishna’s blessings, some or the other miracle occurs when they visit Guruvayoor.
It was July 2010, when Kalpana when to Guruvayoor. The last puja was Athazha puja (conducted after 8pm). After the Sanctum Sanctorum is closed, the Utsava vigraha (Festival idol) of Krishna is brought out and taken on the elephant around the temple premises.
The grandeur is to be seen and not described. We need one thousand eyes to see the beauty of the whole procession.

Suddenly, Kalpana saw a Brahmin standing like a statue and staring at her.
The interesting thing was…
He was dressed like a Brahmin in the olden days with hair tuft tied to one side. Now a days do we see Namboodaris dressing like this??
Suddenly he bent and disappeared. Kalpana looked around to see if she could spot him, but he was nowhere to be seen.

The next year, 2012, when they visited during Pandiradi puja (conducted in the afternoon) the neivedyam was Pal Payasam which is offered to Bhagawan in big handis (vessels). Normally after the neivedyam the Pal payasam is distributed to devotees who buy the ticket in the morning. When neivedyam was being taken from the kitchen to Sanctum Sanctorum, Kalpana and her children were waiting in the pradakshina place around the temple, very near to where the neivedyam was being taken.
Suddenly a young Brahmin came to Adithya and asked him ‘what is that?’ pointing to the payasam. By the time Adithya recovered and replied, the Brahmin had disappeared.
In 2013, again during the Pandiradi puja time, Kalpana was standing in the queue to collect the pal payasam after the neivedyam. Her children Adithya and Malavika were sitting to one side in the pradakshina hall. There was another family with a small child sitting close by. An old Brahmin, who was too old to even walk comfortably, went to the family with the small child and gave prasadam on a small banana leaf. He then approached Adithya and asked him to request the couple to share the prasadam with him and that he should also give a little bit to his sister. As they were watching him, he took a few steps, turned back again towards Adithya and his sister.
Surprisingly what do they see? He was holding a small banana leaf again with Aval prasadam.
How did he get it???
He came back to Malavika, asked her to hold out her palm and placed the banana leaf in her hand. He said ‘Eat this prasadam. It is Guruvayoorappa’s favourite prasadam. I love watching you eating it’. When he was placing the prasadam in her hand, his hand touched her palm and she felt like a jolt of electricity passing through her.
As they ate a little bit of the prasadam and looked up, he was nowhere to be seen.
How can an old man who can barely walk disappear so fast???
Later, after coming back to the room, when Kalpana asked Krishna who that old man was, the reply was ‘why do you doubt Amma?’
In that same trip, Kalpana went to watch Krishna attam that is conducted every day evening outside the temple. Suddenly she felt someone touching her from the backside, and when she turned around, there was no one.
Again in 2015…
Kalpana was standing in the queue to have darshan of her sweet Guruvayoorappa. Suddenly she felt someone holding her hand.
When she looked, she saw that it was none other than Lord Krishna who was holding her hand!
All her relatives who accompanied her could see that there was adequate space around her as if someone had put an unseen kavacham.
Before she reached the Sanctum Santorum, she could feel herself floating. There was a security guard who was pushing and shouting at devotees to move at a faster pace. However, when Kalpana reached the sanctum sanctorum, he just froze, went quiet and started looking at her without saying anything.
She folded her hands along with Krishna’s and stood before Bhagawan for five minutes without being disturbed by the security officer. After she moved out, the guard became normal again, as if someone had removed the maya.
Krishna took one full pradakshina of the temple with Kalpana. As soon as she stepped out of the temple, He disappeared into the crowd.
Now who were they - old and young Brahmins - who Kalpana and her family saw during their visits on different occasions???
As Krishna says…
Do we need to ask???
Do we need to doubt who it was???
Hare Krishna
