Q and A
Topic - Cleanse of Bad Karma
Dear Geetha garu , wish to ask you a pertinent question , clarification .I was reading abt Karma posted by a friend in a BG group. Our Lord Krishna says We should face Good and Bad Karma, go thru the action reaction process, other beliefs like Christians says, by praying to 'their' Lord, Sins are erased. Then isn't it that our prayers too should erase our past Ill effects , or still inspite of our prayers we Shud face our Karma a per Hinduism,Krishna's message. If then, the question is what will be Hindus get by praying, only mental peace , future should be good (but again here it may mean past bad Karma erased) . Thank you. - Pavan from Hyderabad.
Pavan there is a story - once King Dessarada ( I think) went to guru Vasishata muni and asked " Guru I want moksha and I don't want to be reborn". Vasishita muni then asked him to follow him and took him to the shore of a river and pointed him to a hill made up of sand and told him each sand represents your bad karma and when you finish these karmas you will get moksha. He was shocked and asked how he could finish all these karma. He then told the king there is a way and he should obey him with out asking any questions. The muni asked the king to sleep that night at the front porch of his widow sisterinlaw's. The king was shocked but obeyed the sage. The next morning when the people saw the king sleeping in the porch started accusing him and pointing fingers at him. King went back to the sage ashamed for his action but the sage asked him to do this again the next 10 nights. Every night this continued and people threw stones at him and called bad names and finally out of despair the king said he couldn't do this again. Vasishata took the king to the river shore and pointed to the hill. But there was no hill and the king was shocked. The sage explained that all his sins and karmas were absorbed by others who accused him and threw stones at him.
The moral of this story is to live your life loving others and not hurting Bhagavan's children. Manasa vacha karmana do not hurt others - if you do you are taking other's Papams and increasing your sanjitha karma.
Pavan praying is the means to get good thoughts all ways so that you will walk the Dharma path. Praying or Sadhana helps you to align your actions towards it. And helps you to deter away from doing bad karma .
Many margas take you to Krishna jnana marga, Bhakti marga and karma marga. We need all three to erase our karmas. Each one compliment each other and help us to get to our Lord Krishna. jnanam helps to increase Bhakti and Bhakti increase your good deeds. You can pray all day but not treat your fellow souls. So it is imperative to also help fellow humans and other living beings . That was the gist of the message Nalini got from Lord Krishna , we shouldn't expect anything from them in return.
